Tapio Lehtinen is a legendary Finnish sailor and nature enthusiast. He's a 64 year old gentleman of the seas, who just two years ago sailed around the world, nonstop, with a small sailboat using only 1960’s technology and design. He navigated without any digital or gps assistance, using only paper charts, sun and stars. 300+ days out at the ocean, without touching land – until the journey ended from where it started, Les Sables D’Olonne, France.
Now he’s doing the same adventure again, alone, taking part in the Golden Globe Race 2022. With the same small boat. The adventure started on September 4th, 2022. And after he will return back sometime during spring 2023 he will start another journey, the Ocean Globe Race 2023. With a larger classic yacht s/y Galiana, Swan 55 built in 1970, with a crew consisted mostly of young sailors – to pass the torch of true seamanship to the next generation. Both these races are sailed with traditional boats and methods: everything based on digital or satellite technology is forbidden except for safety use.
We are following his adventures with great excitement. Creating footage. Always inspired.
